Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India's economic performance and development initiatives during an address in Daman. The key highlight was the announcement of India's GDP growth figures for the fiscal year 2025-26, which ended on March 31st. India achieved a growth rate of 7.7% for the full year and 7.8% for the fourth quarter, maintaining its position as the world's fastest-growing large economy despite global crises.

The address primarily focused on development projects inaugurated or for which foundation stones were laid in the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, and Lakshadweep. These projects span connectivity, health, education, tourism, and urban infrastructure, aimed at making life easier for residents and creating new opportunities for youth. Specific projects mentioned include the Namo Airport, an iconic bridge on the Damanganga river, a convention center on the 'Beach Front', and modern ports in Kalpeni and Kadmat islands of Lakshadweep.

Tourism development was a significant focus, with the PM noting that visitor numbers to Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu surged from about 6 lakh tourists in 2021 to approximately 50 lakh in 2025—a nearly tenfold increase in just a few years. This growth was attributed to better infrastructure, facilities, and clean beaches, with specific mentions of Daman Night Market, Ramsetu Sea-Front, Namopath Sea-Front, Nani Daman Fort, and Gangeshwar Temple Complex as emerging attractions.

Healthcare achievements were detailed, highlighting that Ayushman Cards and Jan Aushadhi Kendras have saved the poor and middle class nearly ₹2.25 lakh crore in treatment costs. The National Family Health Survey results showed significant improvements: over 90% of deliveries now happen in hospitals (reducing maternal and infant mortality), child vaccination rates increased from 60% before 2014 to about 90% today, and health insurance coverage rose from less than 30% of families to over 60% currently.

Other sectoral updates included education expansion with national-level institutes established locally, benefiting over 40,000 students through new school buildings and smart classrooms. The 18th campus of NIFT was announced, along with new courses like Drone Technician at ITI Daman. In sports, Diu has emerged as a center for beach sports, with infrastructure developments including a Football Center in Khanvel and Volleyball Training Center in Daman.

Industrial developments were noted, with the Union Territory being recognized as the National Man-Made Fibre Capital and making progress in plastic exports. MSMEs and other industries received financial assistance of more than crores of rupees. On environmental initiatives, the region achieved 100% solar energy use in government buildings, with Diu meeting its entire daytime electricity demand through solar power. A campaign to plant about one lakh one trees was also mentioned.
