India will host the 13th BRICS Urbanization Forum in New Delhi on June 11-12, 2026
The forum is being held under India's BRICS presidency for 2026
Theme: 'जनता के लिए शहर: समावेशी और सुदृढ़ शहरी भविष्य के लिए ब्रिक्स सहयोग' (Cities for People: BRICS Cooperation for Inclusive and Resilient Urban Future)
This marks India's fourth time hosting the BRICS Urbanization Forum
India first hosted the forum in 2013 in New Delhi, which formally included urbanization in the BRICS cooperation agenda
India hosted again in 2016 in Visakhapatnam, focusing on sustainable urban development, smart cities, and urban resilience
India virtually hosted the forum in 2021 post-pandemic, focusing on urban redevelopment
All eleven BRICS member countries are invited to participate with ministerial-level delegations
Participants will include ministers, senior officials, policy makers, urban development experts, and other specialists from BRICS member countries
The two-day forum will include: opening session, high-level plenary session on BRICS shared urban priorities, site visits to selected locations in New Delhi, thematic panel discussions on priority areas, and bilateral discussions between countries
The forum will focus on shared priorities including: inclusive urban development, climate and disaster resilient infrastructure, strong municipal institutions, and digital innovation for better urban governance
BRICS nations face common challenges including: housing, mobility, climate risks, municipal capacity, urban finance, and service delivery
