Prime Minister Narendra Modi held official talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his state visit to Indonesia, marking their first meeting since President Prabowo's visit to India for the 76th Republic Day celebrations in January 2025. The leaders reviewed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, covering trade and investment, defence and security, maritime cooperation, digital and financial technology, energy, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, space, critical minerals and rare earths, culture, tourism, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges.
A significant digital commerce development was the launch of Indonesia Open Network (ION) based on India's Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform. To commemorate the centenary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore's visit to Indonesia in 2027, Prime Minister Modi announced that both countries would jointly celebrate the occasion as "Tagore-Dewantara Year for Cultural and Educational Diplomacy."
The leaders exchanged perspectives on regional and global issues, discussing the strengthening of the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and reaffirming their commitment to a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific. Prime Minister Modi highlighted India's MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision, while President Prabowo expressed Indonesia's full support for India's ongoing BRICS Presidency in 2026.
Following the talks, the leaders witnessed the exchange of multiple MoUs and agreements covering defense, critical minerals and rare earths, science and technology, education, electoral practices, telecommunications, agriculture, maritime security, space, steel supply chain, disaster management, medical products regulation, and health workforce collaboration. Additionally, a Letter of Intent was exchanged for India's support in the conservation and restoration of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Prambanan Temple Complex in Yogyakarta.
