India's Index of Industrial Production Records 6.7% Growth in July 2026

India's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) registered a year-on-year growth of 6.7% in July 2026, according to quick estimates released by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. The index value stood at 124.8 compared to 117.0 in July 2025. This growth follows a 7.3% increase recorded in June 2026 (quick estimate).

Sectoral Performance

The manufacturing sector, which carries the highest weight of 76.062%, grew by 7.3% year-on-year in July 2026, with its index reaching 127.4. The electricity and gas supply sector showed strong growth of 8.7%, reaching an index value of 133.5. Water supply, sewerage and waste management grew by 7.4% to 148.4, while mining and quarrying contracted by 0.9% to 94.4.

Manufacturing Sector Details

Within the manufacturing sector, 19 out of 23 industry groups at NIC 2-digit level recorded positive growth. The top performers were manufacture of electrical equipment (28.3% growth), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (22.2% growth), and manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (12.1% growth). Other significant growth was seen in manufacture of other transport equipment (22.0%), rubber and plastics products (18.6%), and other non-metallic mineral products (16.5%).

Specific item groups driving growth included auto components, spares and accessories, passenger cars, and commercial vehicles in the motor vehicles sector; electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits, UPS and solid-state drives, and end-face connectors for optical fibres and cables in electrical equipment; and construction machinery/equipment, pumps of all types, and steam/vapour, wind and other turbines in machinery and equipment.

Use-Based Classification

According to use-based classification, capital goods showed the strongest growth at 16.1% year-on-year, reaching an index of 141.8. Intermediate goods grew by 10.0% to 130.9, while consumer durables increased by 10.5% to 129.9. Infrastructure/construction goods grew by 6.9% to 136.2, and primary goods increased by 4.1% to 115.9. Consumer non-durables declined by 1.0% to 113.7.

Cumulative Performance and Revisions

For the April-July 2026 period, the cumulative IIP growth stood at 6.3%, with manufacturing growing 7.0%, electricity and gas supply up 8.7%, and water supply, sewerage and waste management increasing 6.3%. Mining and quarrying contracted by 1.1% during this period.

The quick estimates for July 2026 were compiled with a weighted response rate of 88.9%, while the final revision for June 2026 had a response rate of 93.0%. The next IIP release for August 2026 is scheduled for Monday, 28th September 2026.
