The Government of India is implementing significant measures to promote Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies adoption among MSMEs through the IndiaAI Mission. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is executing this mission, which was approved on March 7, 2024, with a substantial outlay of ₹10,371.92 crore. The mission is structured around seven comprehensive pillars: IndiaAI Compute Capacity, IndiaAI Innovation Centre, IndiaAI Datasets Platform, IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, IndiaAI Future Skills, IndiaAI Startup Financing, and Safe & Trusted AI.
The primary objectives of the mission include democratizing AI benefits across all strata of society, strengthening the AI innovation ecosystem, and ensuring socially impactful, responsible, and inclusive growth. Specifically for MSMEs, the mission aims to facilitate AI adoption across sectors to enhance their productivity and competitiveness. The government periodically assesses digital adoption among MSMEs through evaluation studies conducted in collaboration with industry and research institutions. Additionally, the Output-Outcome Monitoring Framework (OOMF) of NITI Aayog serves as an institutional mechanism for evaluating outcomes of government interventions in the MSME sector.
