The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released new operational guidelines for the Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, introducing an upgraded 7X7X7 framework to replace the previous 6X6X6 strategy. The guidelines were unveiled during the 16th Central Council of Health and Family Welfare meeting on June 29, 2026.

The program targets seven specific beneficiary groups: children 6-59 months, children 5-9 years, adolescents 10-19 years, pregnant women, lactating mothers, women in reproductive age (20-49 years), and 0-6 months low birth weight babies. Seven key interventions are outlined: prophylactic IFA supplementation, testing of anemia, therapeutic management of anemia, deworming and delayed cord clamping, Jan Bhagidari communication strategy, addressing non-nutritional causes of anemia, and promoting locally available iron-rich foods through dietary diversification.

Seven institutional mechanisms support implementation: intra-ministerial coordination, National Centre of Excellence and Advanced Research on Anemia, National AMB Abhiyaan Unit, strengthening supply chain and logistics, convergence with other ministries, Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Portal, and digital framework for monitoring through T4 approach.

The program shifts from the previous T3 approach (Test, Treat, Talk) to a T4 approach that adds Tracking, creating a robust digital system for monitoring anemia services. Beneficiaries are tested across multiple platforms, with pregnant and lactating mothers registered in JANANI Portal, school-going children in RBSK portal, and children for vaccination in U-WIN portal. The program includes categorization of anemia into mild, moderate, and severe levels with appropriate management protocols.

The framework emphasizes dietary diversification using the Eat Right Approach, promotion of locally available iron-rich foods, implementation of a convergent 'whole of Government Approach' with inter-ministerial convergence, and a Jan Bhagidari communication strategy to transform mindset from passive acceptance of anemia to active ownership.
