The Government of India has released new operational guidelines for the Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan during the 16th Central Council of Health and Family Welfare meeting on 29th June 2026. The program introduces a comprehensive 7X7X7 framework to accelerate anemia reduction, moving from the previous 6X6X6 strategy.

Program Components and Strategy

The initiative encompasses seven key components: saturation of hemoglobin testing using Digital Invasive Hemoglobinometers across beneficiary platforms; prophylaxis and targeted therapeutic management based on anemia category; segregation of nutritional and non-nutritional anemia for appropriate case management; robust digital system for tracking anemia services shifting from T3 (Test, Treat, Talk) to T4 approach (Test, Treat, Talk and Track); dietary diversification with Eat Right Approach promoting locally available iron-rich foods; implementation of convergent 'whole of Government Approach' with inter-ministerial convergence; and 'Jan Bhagidari' communication strategy to transform mindset from passive acceptance to active ownership of anemia control.

7X7X7 Framework Details

The framework targets seven beneficiary groups: children 6-59 months, children 5-9 years, adolescents 10-19 years, pregnant women, lactating mothers, women in reproductive age (20-49 years), and 0-6 months low birth weight babies. Seven interventions include prophylactic IFA supplementation, testing of anemia, therapeutic management of anemia, deworming and delayed cord clamping, Jan Bhagidari communication strategy to improve compliance, addressing non-nutritional causes of anemia, and Eating Right promotion of locally available iron-rich food. Seven institutional mechanisms support implementation: intra-ministerial coordination, National Centre of Excellence and Advanced Research on Anemia, National AMB Abhiyaan Unit, strengthening supply chain and logistics, convergence with other Ministries, Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Portal, and digital framework for monitoring through T4 approach.

Digital Infrastructure and Implementation

The T4 approach encompasses Testing for anemia, Treatment for anemia, Talk for awareness and compliance through Jan Bhagidari, and Tracking beneficiaries for treatment, referral and follow-up. The digital framework enables recording, strengthening digital tracking and monitoring of anemia services across multiple platforms including JANANI Portal for pregnant and lactating mothers, RBSK portal for school-going children, and U-WIN portal for children undergoing vaccination. The program includes categorization of anemia into mild, moderate and severe levels with appropriate management protocols.
