India's seventh Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) inaugurated at Jammu
The centre will serve Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh
Provides district-level forecasts, mountain weather forecasts, and tourist advisories
Issues warnings for flash floods, cloudbursts, avalanches, heavy snowfall, thunderstorms, and landslides
Four Doppler Weather Radars now operational at Jammu, Srinagar, Leh and Banihal (compared to zero in 2014)
Five additional Doppler Weather Radars proposed for Anantnag, Rajouri, Baramulla, Kishtwar and Doda
Region currently has 56 observatories: 15 manual observatories, 25 Automatic Weather Stations (AWSs), and 16 Automatic Rain Gauges (ARGs)
In 2014: Only 13 AWSs and 14 ARGs were available
Recently installed AWSs at Kargil, Ukhral in Ramban district, and Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan
Current financial year plans: 8 more AWSs and 5 ARGs expected to be installed
Daily Rainfall Monitoring Scheme stations increased from 30 in 2014 to 85 at present
Jammu and Kashmir seismological network modernized with digital systems
Five seismic stations operational across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh
Additional observatory established at Udhampur
New seismological observatory proposed in Kishtwar
Automatic Weather Station and seismology centre to be established in Kishtwar following last year's disaster
Srinagar Meteorological Observatory recognized by World Meteorological Organization as Centennial Observing Station
Meteorological Centre at Srinagar signed collaborations with Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST)-Jammu, SKUAST-Kashmir, and Islamic University of Science and Technology
High-Altitude Cloud Physics Laboratory established at Patnitop in collaboration with Swiss scientific institutions
