23rd India-Myanmar National Level Meeting Concludes
The 23rd National Level Meeting between India and Myanmar was held on July 7-8, 2026, in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Shri Govind Mohan, Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, while the Myanmar delegation was led by Major General Min Thu, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Myanmar.
Both countries reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and close partnership, with India emphasizing Myanmar's important position in its Neighbourhood First, Act East, and MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) policies. The meeting involved comprehensive discussions on bilateral security cooperation, with progress review under existing dialogue mechanisms.
The parties discussed cooperation in combating various transnational crimes including terrorism, insurgency, narcotics trafficking, arms smuggling, human trafficking, wildlife trafficking, cybercrime, and other forms of organized crime. They agreed to enhance intelligence sharing and operational coordination while undertaking capacity-building initiatives to address shared security challenges effectively.
Both sides reviewed the current security situation along the India-Myanmar border and reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and security in the border region. Myanmar provided assurance that its territory would not be permitted to be used against India's security interests.
The meeting highlighted the importance of completing two major infrastructure projects: the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport project and the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the meeting outcomes and agreed to continue close engagement through existing bilateral mechanisms, regular exchanges, training programs, and implementation of mutually agreed decisions.
