Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Shobha Karandlaje, led the Indian delegation at the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland on June 9, 2026. The participation underscored India's commitment to inclusive growth, gender equality, and social dialogue through a coordinated diplomatic presence involving discussions and high-level bilateral meetings.
During a bilateral meeting with Nepal's Minister for Youth, Labour and Employment, Ramjee Yadav, Nepal appreciated India's digital portals while India emphasized Nepal's priority status under its "Neighbourhood First" policy. Both ministers discussed enhancing cooperation in skill development, labour mobility, and digital technology sharing, reaffirming their commitment to worker welfare and deepening bilateral ties.
In a meeting with Angola's Minister of Public Administration, Labour and Social Security, Teresa Rodrigues Dias, discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in labour and employment, skills development, vocational training, social protection, and workforce training. Both ministers agreed to increase cooperation in employment services, skilling, workforce planning, and digital governance. Angola requested knowledge sharing of India's digital goods, and India offered technical assistance and capacity building support for designing, developing, and operationalizing digital platforms for employment services, worker registration, and job and skill matching.
During the meeting with Mauritius' Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations, Muhammad Reza Casam Uteem, India appreciated the close bilateral relations anchored in shared history, culture, democratic values, and people-to-people ties. Mauritius acknowledged India's significant progress in developing digital public infrastructure in the labour and employment sector, and India reaffirmed its readiness to share expertise and provide continued technical assistance in developing digital goods.
Minister Karandlaje also met with labour ministers from France, UK, South Korea, USA, and Canada to discuss legal pathways for migration of skilled manpower from India through mutual recognition of skills and demand-driven skilling.
