India's renewable energy sector has achieved remarkable growth with installed capacity increasing nearly fourfold from 76.38 GW in 2014 to 288.58 GW as of June 30, 2026. Solar power constitutes the largest share at 162.15 GW, followed by wind power at 57.44 GW, hydro power at 57.24 GW, and bio power at 11.75 GW. The total non-fossil fuel electricity capacity in the country stands at 297.36 GW, which includes the 288.58 GW renewable energy capacity plus 8.78 GW of nuclear power capacity.
Since fiscal year 2014 through fiscal year 2026, the renewable energy sector has attracted Foreign Direct Investment totaling USD 45.72 billion. During the same period, domestic financial institutions including 12 public sector banks, IREDA, PFC, REC, IIFCL, NaBFID, and SIDBI deployed Rs.12.32 lakh crore (approximately $147.8 billion) toward renewable energy development.
