The Ministry of Electronics & IT reported significant expansion of India's digital governance infrastructure through the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) and Digital India Programme. The Common Service Centres (CSCs) have grown from 83,950 in May 2014 to 501,731 in May 2026, covering 256,743 Gram Panchayats across the country. In FY2025-26, the CSC network processed 48.54 crore transactions, a substantial increase from 4.57 crore transactions in FY2014-15.
India's Digital Public Infrastructure has achieved remarkable scale: Aadhaar has generated over 1.44 billion numbers and facilitated Direct Benefit Transfers of over Rs. 52 lakh crore across 318 schemes of 56 Ministries. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) serves 55.49 crore individuals and 6.5 crore merchants, processing 85% of India's digital payments. DigiLocker has 71.66 crore registered users with 936.03 crore documents issued, while e-Sanjeevani has served over 48 crore patients nationwide.
State-wise transaction data for FY2025-26 shows Uttar Pradesh led with 1,177.55 lakh transactions, followed by Bihar (510.82 lakh), Rajasthan (413.32 lakh), Maharashtra (340.53 lakh), and West Bengal (341.11 lakh). Madhya Pradesh recorded 223.24 lakh transactions, with district-level data showing Jabalpur (13.13 lakh), Seoni (28.36 lakh), and Satna (5.43 lakh) as high-performing districts.
Third-party evaluations conducted in 2025 revealed high adoption rates, with 90% of respondents aware of and using digital services, and 71% accessing them monthly. The CSC impact assessments showed significant benefits: reduced travel distance by 27.25 km, travel time by 40.43 minutes, waiting time by 69.45 minutes, travel cost by ₹52.12, and wage loss by ₹179.44 per transaction. Additionally, 98% of beneficiaries obtained required services through CSCs, with 95% expressing satisfaction.
The government is strengthening last-mile delivery through BharatNet connectivity to 2.21 lakh Gram Panchayats, AI-based monitoring systems, and enhanced coordination with State Governments and District e-Governance Societies.
