India's Groundwater Recharge Rises 3.8%, Safe Units 73.14%

The Central Ground Water Board monitors groundwater via 27,000 level and 20,000 quality stations, with 22,000 digital water level recorders and 712 Jal Shakti Kendras.
Jal Shakti Abhiyan and Jal Sanchay initiatives have created over 2 crore water conservation works and 49 lakh rainwater harvesting structures.
Groundwater recharge increased from 432 to 448.52 BCM (2017-2025), safe units rose from 62.6% to 73.14%, and over-exploited units fell to 10.8%.
A Model Groundwater Bill has been circulated, with 21 states adopting regulations, and CGWA regulates extraction in 19 states via NoC and penalties.
