India's Services Exports Reach USD 421.3 Billion in FY 2025-26

India's services exports demonstrated consistent growth over the past five years, increasing from USD 254.5 billion in FY 2021-22 to USD 421.3 billion in FY 2025-26. The growth was primarily driven by two major sectors: Telecommunications, Computer and Information Services contributed 49.03% of total services exports at USD 206.6 billion in FY26, while Business Services accounted for 29.5% at USD 124.2 billion. The data, sourced from RBI, shows steady annual growth with exports reaching USD 325.3 billion in FY23, USD 341.1 billion in FY24, and USD 387.5 billion in FY25.

Government's Multi-Pronged Export Enhancement Strategy

The Government of India implemented a comprehensive strategy to enhance services exports, including focused market and sector-specific strategies, addressing domestic sectoral challenges through stakeholder consultation, and leveraging Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Through FTAs, India secured comprehensive market access and national treatment allowing Indian service providers to operate on no less favorable terms through cross-border delivery (including digital mode), commercial presence, and temporary movement of professionals. Recent FTAs incorporated disciplines on domestic regulation to ensure time-bound, predictable, and transparent authorization processes for key services.

Key FTA Provisions and Agreements

The FTAs include facilitative provisions for time-bound negotiations of Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) between professional bodies to recognize qualifications and avoid duplicative local testing. Additional beneficial provisions include supportive frameworks for students in agreements with Australia and New Zealand, Social Security Agreements to avoid double payments (including the India-UK CETA agreement signed February 10, 2026), traditional medicine provisions with Oman and EU, and double taxation elimination commitments for IT services in the India-Australia ECTA.

Trade Promotion and International Outreach

The Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC), established by the Department of Commerce, plays a key role in trade promotion through market development, trade facilitation, policy advocacy, and capacity building. Recent activities included the 2nd Medical Value Tourism Summit in April 2025 with Tamil Nadu government, Indian Pavilions at major international exhibitions including Arabian Travel Market Dubai (April 28-May 1, 2025), GETEX Dubai (April 30-May 2, 2025), MIPCOM Paris (October 13-16, 2025), Malaysia Health & Pharma Expo (October 7-9, 2025), Tokyo Games Show (September 24-26, 2025), and GAMESCOM Cologne (August 20-24, 2025).
