The Ministry of Textiles provided an update on the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) launched in 2020 to boost the technical textile sector in India. Under Component-II (Promotion and Market Development) of NTTM, the ministry has organized or participated in 47 national and international conferences.
India's technical textiles industry achieved a significant trade surplus of Rs 3,420.20 crore in FY 2025-26, with exports reaching Rs 29,217.60 crore against imports of Rs 25,797.40 crore, according to data from DGCIS, Ministry of Commerce.
The mission focuses on promoting indigenous development and commercialization of value-added technical textiles products across critical segments including agro-textiles, geo-textiles, medical textiles, industrial textiles, protective textiles, and sportech. It undertakes awareness creation among stakeholders, user Ministries/Departments, and the general public through workshops, conferences, exhibitions, and skill development programs. The mission has recommended mandatory adoption of technical textiles items in specified applications by various end-user Ministries/Departments/State Governments to create sustained domestic demand.
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles includes technical textiles as one of its focus segments, designed to address structural gaps in India's Man-Made Fibre (MMF) and technical textiles value chain. The scheme aims to encourage investment in high value-added segments, enhance production capacity, technology adoption, and export competitiveness of the sector.
These combined measures are expected to provide significant impetus to the growth of the domestic technical textiles industry and enhance its share in global trade.
