India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Enters Force July 15, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will officially enter into force on July 15, 2026, describing it as a historic milestone for bilateral relations between the two countries. The agreement is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade and investment flows between India and the United Kingdom.
The trade pact is designed to unlock numerous opportunities for various Indian sectors, specifically benefiting farmers, workers, MSMEs, startups, and innovators across the country. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the agreement will contribute meaningfully to the realisation of India's Viksit Bharat 2047 development vision.
The announcement was made jointly by Prime Minister Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during their attendance at the G7 Summit in Evian, France. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the significant momentum being added to India-UK economic ties through this comprehensive trade agreement. The Prime Minister made the formal announcement through his official social media account on X (formerly Twitter) on June 17, 2026.
