US Trade Representative (USTR) has completed an investigation against 60 economies including India regarding measures to restrict import of goods
USTR has proposed additional tariffs on imports from these 60 economies under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974
Tariffs under Section 232 and some other products have been excluded from these tariff proposals
A special arrangement has been proposed for textile and apparel products, allowing imports up to a certain quantity from select economies to enter the US at lower tariff rates
The proposed tariffs have not been finalized yet
Stakeholders can request to participate in public hearings until June 22, 2026
Written submissions can be submitted until July 6, 2026
Public hearing will be held on July 7, 2026
USTR will consider received submissions and evidence before making final decisions on proposed measures
India continues to engage with the US on this matter under Section 301 proceedings
India is also negotiating with the US to finalize a framework agreement as per joint statement declared on February 2, 2026 and issued on February 7, 2026
