IndiaAI and Ministry of AYUSH Sign MoU for AI Integration in Traditional Healthcare
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's IndiaAI initiative has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of AYUSH to accelerate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence across India's traditional medicine ecosystem. The MoU was signed on July 31, 2026, by Shri Sudeep Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer of IndiaAI Mission and Joint Secretary at MeitY, and Dr. Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer at Ministry of AYUSH, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.
Under this collaboration, the Ministry of AYUSH will onboard AIKosh, India's sovereign AI repository, and contribute eligible anonymized health research artefacts including datasets, metadata, AI models, toolkits, and relevant use cases. These resources will be made available to researchers, startups, academic institutions, and innovators to develop AI solutions aligned with national priorities while adhering to applicable data-sharing policies and regulatory requirements.
The partnership will also enable eligible stakeholders from the AYUSH ecosystem to leverage India's AI computing infrastructure through the IndiaAI Compute ecosystem, supporting advanced AI research and development of scalable healthcare solutions. The MoU remains valid for an initial period of two years with provision for automatic renewal upon mutual agreement, and notably involves no financial commitment or liability for either party.
Officials from both ministries emphasized the strategic importance of this integration. Shri Sudeep Srivastava highlighted that this collaboration between modern technology and ancient wisdom will empower researchers and practitioners of traditional medicinal sciences. Dr. Kavita Jain noted that AI integration will open new avenues for evidence-based research, knowledge management, and innovation across areas including research, medicinal plants, drug administration, and capacity building, making the AYUSH ecosystem more technology-driven and future-ready.
