The Indian Parliamentary Delegation, led by Hon'ble Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Shri Harivansh, departed for Arusha, Tanzania on October 3, 2026, to participate in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) scheduled from October 5 to 9, 2026. The delegation comprises nine Members of Parliament including Shri Harivansh as Leader of the Delegation, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Smt. Aparajita Sarangi, Dr. Sasmit Patra, Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Dr. Lata Wankhede, Smt. Bijuli Kalita Medhi, and Shri N. K. Premachandran.

The IPU Assembly will focus on the theme "Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust and opportunities for all." The Indian delegation will participate in various meetings, panel discussions, and workshops on contemporary global issues. Shri Harivansh will specifically participate in the Governing Council, General Debate, emergency item debate, and the hearing with candidates for IPU President position.

Discussion topics include democracy and human rights, peace and international security, sustainable development, women's participation, science and technology, counter-terrorism, health, mental health, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, future of work, maritime security, climate change, and protection of mountain and ocean ecosystems. This participation demonstrates India's ongoing engagement with the IPU and commitment to parliamentary diplomacy, multilateral dialogue, and cooperation among parliaments on global peace, development, democracy, and community empowerment issues.
