The Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, continued its participation in the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania on October 6, 2026. The delegation members engaged across multiple IPU committees and activities throughout the day.

Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Lok Sabha MP and member of the IPU Committee on Health, participated in committee sessions and accompanied the committee on a field visit. Shri Harivansh participated in Assembly meetings and exercised India's Right of Reply to address what were described as "uncalled remarks" made by Pakistan regarding Kashmir. On the Assembly floor, he stated that "Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India" and that Pakistan has "no locus-standi to comment on India's internal affairs."

Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Lok Sabha MP, participated in the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights and contributed to the debate on the draft resolution titled 'Inclusive social development for all: Parliamentary strategies to promote the rights and empowerment of people living with disabilities.' Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Lok Sabha MP, attended the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security meeting and participated in the debate 'Shaping peaceful futures: Parliamentary diplomacy, mediation and dialogue for lasting peace.'

Dr. Sasmit Patra, Rajya Sabha MP, participated in a panel discussion on the 'Role of parliaments in securing peace in the age of military artificial intelligence' within the same committee. He also contributed to the deliberations of the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights and assisted in drafting the resolution on disability rights. Shri N.K. Premachandran, Lok Sabha MP, participated in two workshops: 'Strengthening parliamentary response to terrorism: introducing the IPU reference framework' and 'Critical minerals for shared prosperity: strengthening parliamentary oversight.'

In the evening, the Indian High Commission organized a cultural program in honor of the delegation, after which the delegation members interacted with the Indian diaspora community. The event was posted by PIB Delhi on October 7, 2026, with Release ID 2320068.
