Indian Railways has approved a ₹142 crore project to upgrade the electric traction system from 1x25 kV to 2x25 kV on the Savalyapuram-Guntur section of South Coast Railway. The project covers 73 route kilometers (RKM) and 146 track kilometers (TKM) and forms part of HUN Route 8, which encompasses the Vasco-Gadag-Guntakal-Nandyal-Savalyapuram-Guntur-Vijayawada route. This infrastructure enhancement is designed to strengthen the electric traction capacity and improve operational efficiency to accommodate growing railway traffic demands. The upgraded system will reinforce the power supply infrastructure for electric train operations, enabling more efficient service delivery and enhancing the reliability of this critical transportation corridor. The intervention supports smoother train operations and strengthens the overall rail network in the region, reflecting Indian Railways' continued focus on modernizing traction infrastructure and preparing for future traffic growth. The project was announced on September 19, 2026, through the Press Information Bureau.
