The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has reopened the registration window for IndiaSkills Competition 2026–27 until 19 October 2026 in response to numerous requests from institutions and aspiring participants. This decision follows renewed interest in skill competitions after Team India's exemplary performance at WorldSkills Competition Shanghai 2026, where the contingent secured 10th position globally with six Silver Medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence, improving upon its 13th-place finish at WorldSkills Lyon 2024.
The momentum was further strengthened when Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Team India's WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competitors at his residence on 9 October 2026, celebrating the achievements of India's skilled youth and underscoring the importance of vocational excellence in national development. Following this interaction, the Ministry received multiple requests to reopen registrations.
IndiaSkills 2026–27 has already received approximately 4.0 lakh registrations, reflecting significant interest among young people in demonstrating their capabilities against nationally and internationally benchmarked standards. The competition covers 63 industry-relevant skill categories across manufacturing, engineering, construction, digital technologies, creative industries, and services. Organized under MSDE with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as implementation partner, the competition provides a structured pathway through district/zonal, state, regional, and national levels, enabling talented youth to receive expert guidance and progress toward international representation opportunities.
The Ministry has encouraged State Governments, UT administrations, Industrial Training Institutes, Polytechnics, Colleges, Skill Training Institutions, and industry partners to disseminate information about the reopened window and facilitate registrations through the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) platform. India's largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors participated across 63 skills at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, bringing national attention to the opportunities that skills, specialized training, and sustained preparation can create for young Indians.
