The Union Minister of Jal Shakti launched the Punah Bharan Mobile Application on October 28, 2026, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The application was developed by BISAG-N in collaboration with the National Water Mission, Department of Water Resources, RD&GR, Ministry of Jal Shakti, specifically designed to support scientific groundwater recharge planning across India.
The mobile application enables users to identify potential artificial recharge zones within a radial distance of up to 3 kilometers and explore suitable recharge structures based on local geological and hydrological conditions. Accompanying the mobile app is a web portal that provides access to village-level Artificial Recharge Structure (ARS) zonation maps, GIS tools, and various thematic layers to support informed planning for sustainable groundwater management.
The platform utilizes comprehensive geospatial datasets including rainfall patterns, groundwater levels, groundwater yield capacity, slope topography, and drainage systems to help identify potential recharge areas and plan appropriate interventions. This technological solution represents a significant advancement in groundwater management through the application of geospatial technology, aiming to address India's water resource challenges through scientific planning and data-driven decision making.
