National level IEC campaign aims to enhance awareness on Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 for States/UTs, RLBs and other stakeholders
Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 came into effect from 1st April 2026
Campaign launched in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC)
Campaign focuses on Mission Life themes, behavior change and environmental protection
Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) 2.0 supports vision of Mission Life through focus on 4Rs (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) of Plastic Waste Management
Focus on 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recharge) of Greywater Management
Promotion of circular economy and Waste to Wealth initiatives
Aim to convert villages to ODF Plus (Model)
Campaign objectives include sensitizing stakeholders on SWM Rules 2026, including identification of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs)
Focus on four-stream source segregation and management of legacy waste
Facilitate self-assessment and validation by Gram Panchayats of functionality of community SWM assets
Mobilize communities to ensure cleanliness, proper operation & maintenance of assets
Campaign will culminate with Special Gram Sabhas and "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam" plantation drive on 5th June 2026
More than 5 lakh villages have successfully declared themselves ODF Plus (Model)
SBM(G) has seen construction of nearly 12 crore toilets in rural areas
Campaign involves participation from Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, State Mission Directors, SBM(G) and selected Sarpanches of Gram Panchayats
States involved include Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir
SBM(G) 2.0 is in its last year with focus on saturation of villages as ODF Plus (Model)
Focus on visual cleanliness, functionality of assets and regular monitoring of SBM(G) and Jal Jeevan Mission through DWSMs
