Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh addressed the third meeting of the Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, emphasizing that Hindi promotion should be based on creating greater opportunities and stake in the language rather than imposition. He stated that greater use of Hindi would naturally follow when knowledge of the language creates opportunities for employment and professional growth.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) will make serious efforts towards implementing suggestions received from the Hindi Advisory Committee members, while suggestions falling outside the department's jurisdiction will be forwarded to concerned ministries for examination. Specific suggestions included providing language options in competitions conducted by the Ministry of Skill Development to make initiatives more accessible to beneficiaries from smaller towns and rural areas, and involving committee members in programmes for teaching Hindi in schools through coordination with the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Singh stressed that while substantial work is already carried out in Hindi, it may not be practical to insist on 100% Hindi usage in official communication with non-Hindi-speaking states, emphasizing the need to respect linguistic sensitivities. He advocated for simple and accessible official Hindi that can be easily understood in everyday communication, rather than highly formal or literal translations from English.

The Minister noted significant increase in Hindi usage over the last 10-12 years after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, including increased use by officers from southern parts of the country. He highlighted improvements in translation quality through technology and AI-driven systems with larger datasets, particularly in technically sensitive areas, while cautioning against making Hindi usage a barrier to knowledge acquisition in specialized fields where adequate literature may not be available.

Dr. Singh reiterated that creating stake in a language is more effective than imposition, linking growing demand for Hindi learning to emerging employment opportunities. The Kaushal Patrika of the DoPT was launched during the meeting, which provided committee members an opportunity to place suggestions for promoting wider use of Hindi in official work.
