Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla led Members of Parliament in paying floral tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary on July 6, 2026. The ceremony was held in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan (Parliament House). Union Ministers including Shri Rajnath Singh (Defence), Shri Dharmendra Pradhan (Education), Shri Kiren Rijiju (Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs), and Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal (Law and Justice) participated in the tribute. Other dignitaries included Dr. L. Murugan (Information and Broadcasting), Shri Harivansh (Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha), and Secretaries-General of both Houses.
Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee was commemorated as an eminent parliamentarian, distinguished educationist, and renowned statesman born on July 6, 1901. He served as the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta and was a Member of the First Lok Sabha, recognized for his eloquence, intellectual depth, and commitment to democratic values. His portrait in the Central Hall was painted by Shri N.S. Subbakrishna and unveiled on May 31, 1991, by then President Shri R. Venkataraman.
