Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla addressed the inaugural session of the 'Janpratinidhi Sammelan' organized by the Haryana Vidhan Sabha at Panchkula on November 2, 2026, as part of the Samvidhan Pakhwada Programme. Birla emphasized that agreement and disagreement are essential components of a healthy democracy, stating that dissent must be welcomed and respected as it brings fresh perspectives, addresses administrative blind spots, and promotes better governance. He stressed that all public representatives must prioritize the progress of the state and nation regardless of political differences.
Reflecting on Haryana's six-decade development journey, Birla praised the state's socio-economic resilience and leadership across multiple sectors. He specifically commended Haryana's farming community for pioneering modern agricultural technologies and enhancing crop yields, contributing significantly to India's food security. He also acknowledged the state's youth in armed forces for their valor in safeguarding national borders and sportspersons for enhancing India's stature in global sports.
Birla highlighted the inclusive nature of India's constitutional journey, noting the contributions of the Constituent Assembly under Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and leaders from various regions including Haryana and Punjab. He described the Constitution as "not merely a framework for running the government; it is the soul of India, reflecting our national consciousness and the aspirations of crores of people."
The Speaker urged lawmakers to view governance as an instrument of grassroots empowerment rather than just administrative mechanisms, emphasizing that the ultimate measure of political life lies in bringing tangible socio-economic transformation to the most vulnerable sections of society. He appreciated the Haryana Legislative Assembly for setting exemplary standards through high-quality debates and reasoned dialogue over its six-decade history.
The event was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini, Speaker of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha Shri Harvinder Kalyan, Leader of the Opposition Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shri Mahipal Dhanda, and Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishan Lal Middha.
