Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla paid floral tributes at the portrait of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan on July 23, 2026, marking Tilak's birth anniversary. The ceremony was attended by Members of Parliament, former Members, and other dignitaries, with Secretary-General of Lok Sabha Shri Utpal Kumar Singh also paying respects. The event commemorated Tilak as a towering nationalist, visionary leader, social reformer, and scholar who played a pioneering role in mobilizing political consciousness during the Indian freedom struggle and was a staunch advocate of self-rule (Swaraj). His famous declaration "Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it!" was highlighted as galvanizing generations against colonial rule. The portrait was originally unveiled in the Central Hall on July 28, 1956, by then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in recognition of Tilak's extraordinary contributions to the nation.
