Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs Sanctions 42,000 Houses under PMAY-U 2.0 in Madhya Pradesh

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under Hon'ble Minister Shri Manohar Lal, conducted a landmark program at Sanwer in Indore district on June 20, 2026, benefiting over 80,000 families through house sanctions and Grih Pravesh ceremonies under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) scheme. The event was attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Urban Development & Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, Minister of State for Urban Administration & Development Smt. Pratima Bagri, and other state government ministers.

Under PMAY-U 2.0, sanction letters were issued to over 42,000 eligible beneficiaries, involving ₹1,050 crore in government subsidy. Additionally, 38,000 families performed Grih Pravesh (housewarming ceremonies) for their newly constructed pucca houses across various districts of Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh ranks among the top performing states in PMAY-U implementation, with more than 10.39 lakh houses sanctioned and 9.08 lakh houses completed under both PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0. The program represents a significant step in providing permanent assets to urban poor families, ensuring safe and secure living environments while improving access to basic services and livelihood opportunities. The scheme specifically promotes women's empowerment by mandating house ownership in the name of the woman of the household or joint ownership.

Through PMAY-U 2.0, the government continues efforts to expand affordable housing coverage, supporting housing dreams of an additional 1 crore EWS/LIG and MIG families with financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh rupees for constructing, purchasing, or renting pucca houses in urban areas.
