The Maharashtra Legislature has committed to implementing the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) as part of the Digital India Programme's 'One Nation, One Application' vision. A meeting was held on July 16, 2026, at Vidhan Bhawan, Mumbai, between the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, the Department of Parliamentary Affairs of Maharashtra, and the Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat to discuss implementation details.
The meeting concluded with consensus to expedite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding among the three parties. Detailed deliberations covered the implementation roadmap including software features and workflow, technical infrastructure, institutional preparedness, financial assistance, capacity building, implementation timelines, and roles and responsibilities of participating agencies. Dr. Satya Prakash, Additional Secretary and Mission Leader for NeVA, clarified various operational aspects including software functionality, project implementation, funding pattern, technical support, and training requirements.
NeVA is a Mission Mode Project with a total outlay of ₹673.94 crore aimed at digitalizing all 37 State and Union Territory Legislatures. The Maharashtra implementation specifically carries an estimated cost of approximately ₹48 crore and will cover both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council across their Mumbai and Nagpur locations. The project will enable members to access legislative business electronically, promoting paperless, transparent, and efficient functioning while providing citizens easier access to legislative proceedings.
Currently, 33 State and Union Territory Legislatures have signed MoUs with the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, and 21 Legislatures have already transitioned into fully Digital Houses. The adoption by Maharashtra represents another milestone in the nationwide expansion of the digital legislative ecosystem.
