Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal conducted an inspection of the Bhalswa Dumpsite to review the ongoing legacy waste remediation work being carried out by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The inspection was conducted in the presence of the Commissioner of MCD and senior officials of the Department of Urban Development, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
During the on-site review, MCD reported that 99.07 lakh metric tons of legacy waste has been remediated at the Bhalswa dumpsite as of July 31, 2026. The remaining mound of legacy waste is expected to be completely cleared by October 15, 2026. Additionally, waste accumulated up to March 2026 is targeted for clearance by December 31, 2026.
The Minister directed MCD to expedite the newly awarded work for processing fresh waste arriving at the landfill site to further accelerate the pace of remediation. This directive aims to ensure scientific management of incoming waste without delay. The inspection underscores the sustained priority being accorded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to the time-bound clearance of legacy waste and comprehensive remediation of the Bhalswa dumpsite.
