Ministry of Electronics & IT ECMS Scheme Update

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved 31 new proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) with a projected investment of ₹6,844 crore. This brings the total number of approved ECMS projects to 106 with a cumulative investment of ₹69,548 crore, significantly exceeding the scheme's originally envisaged investment of ₹59,350 crore.

Project Status and Employment Impact

Of the 106 projects approved so far, 38 plants have already commenced manufacturing operations, while another 16 projects are at advanced stages of construction or machinery installation. The total approved investment is expected to generate 74,628 direct jobs and approximately 2.5 lakh indirect employment opportunities across 15 states. The 31 newly approved projects alone are expected to create 9,588 direct jobs.

Manufacturing Capacity and Self-Reliance Achievements

The scheme has successfully driven India towards electronics self-reliance, with production capacity now meeting and exceeding domestic demand in several critical areas. Current output exceeds domestic demand by 110% for anode material, 350% for Optical Transceiver-SFP, and 200% for relays. Capacity for enclosures meets approximately 100% of domestic demand.

New Product Categories and First-Ever Domestic Manufacturing

The latest approvals include first-ever domestic manufacturing of diverse critical components such as filters, coils, and speakers, along with essential raw materials including acetylene black and electrolyte additives. The 31 new approvals cover manufacturing of 20 target segment products spanning four categories: 3 sub-assemblies (Camera Module, Display Module, Optical Transceiver-SFP), 10 components (Enclosures, Connectors, Transducers, Speakers & Microphones, Relays, Antenna, Coils, Filters, Capacitors, and Metal Shielding Covers), 6 supply chain products (Anode Material, Rare Earth Permanent Magnets, Acetylene Black, Electrolyte Additives, Metallized Films for Capacitors, and Hermetic Terminals), and Capital Goods and their parts.

Additionally, Wipro Global Engineering and Electronic Materials Private Limited received approval for additional investment of ₹1,033 crore for manufacturing Laminate (Copper Clad).

Geographic Distribution and Capital Goods Focus

The approved projects are spread across 10 states: Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, with some applicants proposing investments across multiple locations. The approvals continue emphasis on developing domestic manufacturing capability in capital goods and their parts, with approvals granted to Jyoti CNC Automation Limited, VVDN Technologies Private Limited, Accurate Gauging and Instruments Pvt Ltd, Mitsubishi Electric India Private Limited, and Ind Sphinx Precision Limited.

Scheme Objectives and Impact

The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme was launched to deepen the supply chain ecosystem and develop a robust electronics component ecosystem in India. It aims to attract investments across key components including Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), passive components, electro-mechanical components, sub-assemblies, camera modules, optical transceivers, and capital goods required for electronics manufacturing. These approvals will strengthen domestic supply chains, deepen value addition, reduce import dependence, and build advanced manufacturing capabilities, advancing India's emergence as a global electronics manufacturing hub.
