The Ministry of Home Affairs has detailed 12 technology initiatives implemented to significantly improve the speed, efficiency, and transparency in India's judicial process. These systems represent a comprehensive digital transformation of criminal justice administration across multiple pillars including police, courts, prisons, forensics, and prosecution.
Key Technology Platforms
The Crime & Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) application computerizes police processes from FIR registration to charge-sheet filing, enabling investigation tracking, criminal records management, citizen services, and integration with Courts and other pillars of the Criminal Justice System. The application includes timeline-based alerts configured as per provisions of the Nyaya Sanhitas to ensure timely procedural compliance by investigating officers.
The Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) Platform facilitates seamless data exchange between police, courts, prisons, forensics, and prosecution agencies. It enables electronic transmission of records including FIRs, charge-sheets, court orders, forensic reports, and prison data, reducing delays and enhancing transparency across the justice delivery system.
Specialized Monitoring and Evidence Systems
The Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO) is a monitoring dashboard developed specifically to track progress in investigation of cases related to women and children, particularly sexual offences, ensuring timely submission of charge-sheets as mandated by Nyaya Sanhita provisions.
e-Sakshya mobile Application creates a secure, transparent digital ecosystem for capturing and managing primary digital evidence within the criminal justice system. It enables seamless coordination between Police, Prosecution, Courts and other stakeholders while ensuring integrity and authenticity of primary evidence from collection to presentation in court.
Court and Forensic Integration
e-Summons platform streamlines the process of Generation, Transmission, Execution and Reporting of Court Processes in Electronic form. Nyay Shruti digital platform facilitates virtual court appearances through video conferencing, enabling accused individuals, witnesses, police officers, prosecutors and forensic experts to participate in judicial hearings remotely.
Medico Legal Examination and Postmortem Reporting (MedLEaPR) Application provides an end-to-end online solution for Medico Legal related cases, used in Hospitals for Medical Legal Examination and Postmortem Reports Generation. e-Forensic Application serves as a digital platform enabling seamless end-to-end case handling across all forensic laboratories, enhancing transparency, accuracy and efficiency while empowering Forensic Labs to securely manage evidence, automate workflows and deliver faster, data-driven forensic outcomes.
Prison and Prosecution Management
e-Prison is a cloud-based digital application that computerizes and automates all prison and prisoner management operations nationwide. It integrates jail databases into a single national network and facilitates sharing of prison data with Courts, Police and Forensic labs. e-Prosecution is a secure, workflow-based platform that enables structured digital coordination between Police and Prosecution, supporting timely legal opinion and effective prosecutorial oversight before matters proceed to court.
The National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) functions as a centralized nationwide repository for Biometric Fingerprint data. It employs advanced algorithms to enable rapid, real-time matching of chance prints found at crime scenes against a national database of criminal records, allowing police, law enforcement agencies and fingerprint bureaux to securely capture, search and store fingerprint records of accused, arrested and convicted individuals.
This comprehensive technological infrastructure was announced by Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on July 29, 2026.
