The Ministry of Home Affairs convened a meeting in Siliguri chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and representatives from the hill areas of West Bengal. The meeting addressed comprehensive issues concerning the hill population, focusing on demands for distinct identity, permanent political solution, and constitutional recognition.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah committed to delivering a permanent political solution under the Constitution of India and promised sympathetic consideration of all other community demands. He assured that adequate funding from the central government would address pending issues. A committee was established under former deputy National Security Advisor and current interlocutor Pankaj Kumar Singh to finalize modalities and draft the agreement details for the permanent political solution.

The meeting included political representatives such as MP Raju Bista, MP Harshvardhan Singla, Minister for Hills Bishal Lama, and leaders from various organizations including GJM's Bimal Gurung, GNLF's Mann Ghising, and representatives from CPRM and GoRaNiMo. The discussions concluded cordially, with participants thanking both the Union Home Minister and Chief Minister for their approach to addressing the hill population's concerns.
