Padma Awards include three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri
Awards instituted in 1954
Awards recognize 'work of distinction' and distinguished/exceptional achievements/service
Coverage fields: Art, Literature and Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry
Eligibility: All persons without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex
Government servants including PSU employees (except Doctors and Scientists) are not eligible
Government initiative: 'People's Padma' transformation
Focus on identifying talented persons from: women, weaker sections of society, SCs & STs, divyang persons
Nominations must contain all relevant details specified in the format available on the portal
