The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards-2027 are currently open. The nomination process began on 15th March 2026 and will remain open until 31st July 2026. These awards, which will be announced on Republic Day in 2027, are among India's highest civilian honors, comprising the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

The awards recognize 'work of distinction' and exceptional achievements across diverse fields including Art, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, and Trade and Industry. The government emphasizes its commitment to transforming the Padma Awards into 'People's Padma' and specifically encourages citizens to submit nominations, including self-nominations. A concerted effort is requested to identify deserving individuals from among women, weaker sections of society, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and divyang persons (persons with disabilities) who are engaged in selfless service.

All nominations must be submitted exclusively online via the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in). The nomination format requires all relevant details that clearly outline the distinguished and exceptional achievements of the candidate. Government servants, including those working with Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), are generally ineligible for these awards, with the exception of Doctors and Scientists. Further details, statutes, and rules are available on the Ministry of Home Affairs website (https://mha.gov.in) under 'Awards and Medals' and on the dedicated Padma Awards portal (https://padmaawards.gov.in).
