The Ministry of Rural Development has successfully implemented the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 across all rural areas of India effective July 1, 2026. The VB-GRAM-G scheme provides a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment per financial year to rural households whose adult members volunteer for unskilled manual work, building upon the existing 100-day guarantee under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS.
Specific state allocations show an interim allocation of ₹4,420.32 crore for Maharashtra, with mother sanctions of ₹1,459.92 crore issued as the first installment of central share. For Madhya Pradesh, an interim allocation of ₹6,252.03 crore has been made with mother sanctions of ₹630.76 crore issued as the first installment. Both allocations were based on proposals received from the respective states.
The Act allows state governments to provide additional employment days beyond the statutory guarantee using their own resources under Section 5(4). It aims to strengthen sustainable rural livelihoods through creation of durable assets and implementation of permissible works specified in Schedule I, including water-related works, core rural infrastructure, livelihood-related infrastructure, and special works to mitigate extreme weather events.
Concurrently, the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) continues as a flagship poverty alleviation program implemented through State Rural Livelihoods Missions across 760 districts and 7,246 blocks in 34 States and Union Territories. As of June 2026, the mission has mobilized approximately 10.08 crore rural households into nearly 92 lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs).
The program provides capitalization support to eligible SHGs through Revolving Fund of ₹20,000–₹30,000 per SHG and Community Investment Fund of up to ₹2.50 lakh per SHG to support income-generating activities. Interest subvention is available on bank loans with concessional rates of 7% per annum for loans up to ₹3 lakh, and lower of one-year MCLR or 10% for loans between ₹3-5 lakh. Cumulatively, ₹13.41 lakh crore in loans have been disbursed to SHGs under the mission, with these benefits available to eligible groups in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
