The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, through the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), has initiated Agricultural Action Plans for seven states and union territories: Assam, Goa, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. These agricultural roadmaps are being developed through comprehensive consultations with state governments and other stakeholders, representing a collaborative effort between ICAR, the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, ICAR Institutes, State Governments, State Agricultural Universities, and domain experts.
The planning framework is based on agro-climatic regions, natural resource endowments, climate resilience considerations, technological interventions, and farmers' specific needs. The roadmaps aim to ensure technical validation while aligning with state priorities, local agro-climatic conditions, and climate resilience requirements. The primary objectives include enhancement of productivity, profitability, and resource-use efficiency across agriculture and allied sectors.
This broad policy framework serves as guiding principles for states and union territories to reference while formulating their annual action plans under various agricultural schemes. The key expected outcomes include enhancing farmers' income, improving self-sufficiency in agricultural and allied commodities, generating rural employment opportunities, and ensuring sustainable growth of the agriculture sector.
