Ministry of Ayush 2026-27 Budget Allocation and Focus Areas
The Union Budget 2026-27 has allocated a total of ₹4,408.93 crore to the Ministry of Ayush, with ₹1350.45 crore released as of August 4, 2026. The budget breakdown includes ₹114.86 crore for administrative expenses, ₹2588.47 crore for statutory/autonomous bodies, ₹405.60 crore for central sector schemes, and ₹1300.00 crore for the centrally sponsored National Ayush Mission.
Key focus areas for strengthening the Ayush sector include setting up three new All India Institutes of Ayurveda, upgradation of the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre in Jamnagar to bolster evidence-based research, training and awareness for traditional medicine, training of caregivers including Ayush, inclusion of Ayush in Medical Value Tourism, and strengthening of high standard certification facilities in Ayush.
The Ministry is implementing one Centrally Sponsored Scheme (National Ayush Mission) and six Central Sector Schemes: Information, Education and Communication (IEC) with ₹45.00 crore allocated, Promotion of International Cooperation (IC) with ₹156.00 crore, Ayurgyan with ₹50.00 crore, Ayurswasthaya Yojana with ₹62.60 crore, Ayush Oushadhi Gunvatta Evum Uttapadan Sanvardhan Yojana (AOGUSY) with ₹27.00 crore, and Central Sector Scheme for Conservation, Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants with ₹65.00 crore.
The National Ayush Mission provides financial assistance to State/UT Governments for operationalization of Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) by upgrading existing dispensaries, co-location of Ayush facilities at Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres and District Hospitals, upgradation of existing standalone Government Ayush Hospitals, setting up of integrated Ayush Hospitals (10-50 bedded), supply of essential drugs, public health programmes, and establishment of new Ayush colleges. From 2014-15 to 2025-26, an amount of ₹6,40,699.24 lakhs has been allocated/released to states/UTs under this mission.
Regarding regional medical hubs announced in the Union Budget, the Ministry has provided technical inputs to DPIIT for integration of Ayush systems, but no formal proposals for implementation framework have been received as of the reporting date.
