Ministry of Ayush Yoga Sangam Portal for IDY 2026
The Ministry of Ayush has positioned the relaunched Yoga Sangam Portal as the digital backbone for the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) scheduled for June 21, 2026. The portal was officially relaunched by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, during the 25-day countdown event at Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.
As of the reporting date, June 17, 2026, the portal has achieved significant traction with over 1.7 lakh organisers already registered for hosting events. The platform serves as a centralized digital infrastructure enabling online registrations and coordination across diverse participant groups including schools, colleges, resident welfare associations, government bodies, private organisations, and civil society groups.
The initiative represents a shift from conventional single-venue government programs to a distributed national event model. Partner organisations independently organise yoga sessions at their locations while adhering to the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), creating synchronised nationwide demonstrations that transcend regional, linguistic, and social boundaries.
Operational Framework and Historical Context
The Yoga Sangam initiative builds upon its successful debut during IDY 2025, which recorded unprecedented participation metrics. In 2025, more than 10 lakh locations were synchronised through the initiative, with over 13.04 lakh Yoga Sangam events registered nationwide, making it one of the largest coordinated wellness mobilisations ever undertaken in India.
For IDY 2026, the scaled-up portal functionality includes event registration, participation coordination, photograph and report uploads, and contribution to collective national celebration through a single digital interface. Participating organisations are responsible for local mobilisation, event logistics, CYP adherence, and post-event reporting, and will receive certificates from the Ministry of Ayush recognizing their contribution.
Strategic Significance
Minister Jadhav emphasized that "Yoga Sangam is a celebration of unity through wellness" aimed at fostering national integration, encouraging healthier lifestyles, and reaffirming India's role as the global home of yoga. The initiative aligns with the Ministry's broader efforts to deepen yoga's reach at the grassroots level and addresses growing global attention on lifestyle-related disorders and stress-linked health concerns by positioning yoga as an accessible wellness tool.
The digital platform enables decentralized participation while maintaining uniformity through the Common Yoga Protocol, allowing local action to contribute to a collective national experience. This approach transforms a national observance into a people-led movement, leveraging digital technology to maximize participation scale and community ownership of yoga celebrations.
