The Ministry of Culture celebrated International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 at Purana Qila, Delhi on June 21, 2026. The event was organized under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative and featured participation from officers and staff of the Ministry of Culture, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), National Monuments Authority (NMA), school children from Thansingh Pathshala, and CISF personnel deployed at Red Fort.
Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, served as the Chief Guest for the program. Other senior officials in attendance included Additional Secretary Ms. Amita Agarwal, Director General of ASI Sh. Yadubir Singh Rawat, Joint Secretaries Shri Gurmeet Chawla and Dr. Arvind Kumar, along with other senior officers from the Ministry and ASI.
The yoga session was conducted by Instructor Aacharya Tanmay Sharma Guruji from Yog Nirvanadham Mathura Vrindavan Yogpeeth, assisted by three demonstrators: Ms. Radhika Gupta, Ms. Preeti Chhtri, and Shri Nagendra. They guided participants through various yoga asanas, pranayama exercises, and meditation techniques.
Participants observed the live telecast of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's address and yoga session from Kolkata. The event emphasized the theme "Yoga for healthy ageing" and highlighted the harmony between India's cultural heritage and the tradition of yoga. The program concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective pledge by all participants to incorporate yoga into their daily lives and promote its benefits to society.
