The Ministry of Education's Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) successfully concluded Special Campaign 6, which ran from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with a nationwide focus on administrative efficiency, cleanliness, and responsible e-waste management. The campaign mobilized schools, students, teachers, and communities to promote sustainable practices and environmental awareness under Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE.
During the campaign, the Department and its autonomous bodies focused on minimizing pendency in official work by reviewing 41,181 files across various categories and weeding out 31,010 obsolete files, significantly strengthening record management practices. These efforts resulted in freeing 1,84,828 square feet of office space and generating revenue of ₹67.27 lakh through scrap disposal. Over seven lakh cleanliness campaigns were conducted in schools and offices under the Department's jurisdiction.
The e-waste collection drive saw massive participation with 58.79 lakh e-waste items collected by 2.02 crore students and teachers from 2.85 lakh schools across the country during the preparatory and implementation phase from September 16 to October 31, 2026. A special one-day nationwide event on October 28, 2026, involved around 1.89 lakh schools organizing e-waste quizzes during morning assemblies. The objectives focused on reducing e-waste, reusing and refurbishing electronic items where feasible, and ensuring proper disposal through authorized recyclers.
Creative exhibitions showcased Waste to Wonder creations made from discarded e-waste items in New Delhi, where Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary visited the exhibition on October 28. At a national-level event in New Delhi, collected e-waste was formally handed over to a CPCB certified recycler by Secretary of Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances Nivedita Shukla Verma and Secretary of DoSEL T. K. Anil Kumar for proper disposal and processing.
To mark International E-waste Day on October 14, 2026, DoSEL installed an e-waste mural made from 60 kg of e-waste collected by school students, along with e-waste bins at Kartavya Bhavan 2. The campaign reinforced schools as centers for developing environmentally responsible behavior, with over 6.29 lakh e-waste awareness workshops organized during the preparatory phase. Nationwide activities under Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE promoted sustainable lifestyle practices, responsible waste management, and cleaner learning environments.
