The Legislative Department of the Ministry of Law and Justice inaugurated the 36th Basic Course in Legislative Drafting on July 22, 2026, at Vidhayi Sabhagar, Kartavya Bhavan-02, New Delhi. The course is organized by the Institute of Legislative Drafting and Research (ILDR) and is designed for officers from State Governments and Union territories.
Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary of the Legislative Department & Department of Legal Affairs, emphasized the need for uniform legislative drafting across India to ensure clarity, consistency, and legal certainty in laws, particularly during the era of grassroots legislative reforms. The course aims to enhance participants' understanding of legislative drafting principles while providing practical exposure to drafting legislative instruments.
The program, which runs from July 22, 2026, to September 25, 2026, has enrolled 18 trainee officers from thirteen State Governments and one Union territory. The initiative reaffirms the Legislative Department's commitment to strengthening legislative drafting capacity through structured training and is expected to promote uniformity, precision, and excellence in legislative drafting across India.
