Vigyan TECH 2026 National Initiative

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) organized 'Vigyan TECH', a first-of-its-kind national initiative on National Technology Day, 11 May 2026 at BRIC-National Institute of Immunology in New Delhi. The event promoted a whole-of-Government approach for science, technology and innovation, bringing together technological strengths of 14 Ministries and Departments of the Government of India through their autonomous institutes and laboratories.

Exhibition Scope and Technologies Showcased

The exhibition showcased more than 100 in-house developed technologies across key sectors including Space and Geospatial Technologies; Climate and Agri-Food Technologies; Biopharma and Health Technologies; Bioindustrial and Green Chemicals; Deep-tech Materials and Advanced Engineering Technologies; Electronics, Semiconductors and Energy; and Deep-Sea and Atmospheric Technologies. The event featured the release of 'TECH-संग्रह', a compendium featuring nearly 300 technologies developed by participating institutions, many of which have already been commercialized or licensed while others are progressing toward deployment to support national development goals.

Technology Transfers and Licensing

The event witnessed several technology transfers and licensing agreements to industry. From DBT-Biotechnology Research & Innovation Council (DBT-BRIC), five technologies were transferred: Accelerated Crop Innovation Technology platform, Active dried yeast technology, Enzyme for optimized lignocellulosic degradation technology, CleverCUP, and NCE for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. The Indian Council For Medical Research (ICMR) transferred three medical technologies: Factor VIII Inhibitor Test for Haemophilia A Disorder, PSP94 ELISA, and Multiplex Real-Time RT-PCR for Detection of Dengue Chikungunya and Zika Viruses. Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) transferred CSIR PRIMA ET-11, a 100% electric compact tractor. The Ministry of Food Processing Industries transferred three technologies: Extruded Products technology, Hybrid Green House Solar dryer, and Protein & Fiber rich Granola Bar.

Additional Launches

During the event, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launched an Indigenous Glacier Lake Bathymetry Survey Solution developed by C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram. The Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) launched CSIR@100, a booklet outlining CSIR's roadmap towards 2042 with a strong focus on deep-tech innovation, translational research, and technologies aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Strategic Impact and Collaboration

The initiative served as a common strategic platform for knowledge exchange, technology showcasing and exploring opportunities to bridge the gap between laboratory research and industrial application. By bringing together various Ministries, policymakers, scientists, young researchers, industry leaders, and startup founders, the initiative strengthened connections across the innovation ecosystem and provided valuable insights into new opportunities for collaboration and innovation. This represents a significant step towards breaking institutional silos as India embarks on its journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
