The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a success story showcasing the effectiveness of its addiction rehabilitation programs in Manipur. The case study details the journey of L. Delay, a 24-year-old OBC beneficiary from Thoubal, Manipur, who struggled with severe alcohol dependence that began after completing Class 12 due to peer pressure. His addiction significantly impacted his education, family relationships, and emotional well-being, leading to frequent family conflicts and eventual departure from his home.

The individual received comprehensive support through the Outreach and Drop In Centre (ODIC) located at Nambol Phoijing Makha in Bishnupur District, where he was brought by a relative. The intervention package included home detoxification, medical assistance, psychological counselling, behavioural rehabilitation, and family counselling. The program also provided guidance on resisting peer pressure, vocational support, and assistance in rebuilding social and family relationships.

Over a three-month period of structured intervention, L. Delay successfully recovered from alcohol dependence and developed a more disciplined lifestyle with a firm commitment to remain alcohol-free. The rehabilitation process enabled him to restore his confidence and sense of purpose, with continued family support playing a crucial role in his stability recovery.

Currently, L. Delay is employed as a salesman at a large store in Kakching Bazar, earning a stable salary and contributing to his household. His transition from financial instability and family conflict to productive employment and financial independence demonstrates the program's success in helping individuals return to mainstream social and economic life. The case study emphasizes the importance of accessible rehabilitation services in enabling individuals to rebuild lives with discipline, dignity, and renewed purpose.
