The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment commemorated the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi on June 21, 2026. The event was led by Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, and was organized under the national theme 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing' in line with the Prime Minister's vision of holistic health and wellness. The celebration emphasized the Ministry's commitment to fostering a healthier, more resilient, and inclusive nation through three key pillars: enhancing physical vitality and mental clarity across all age groups, promoting mindfulness as a tool to combat modern stress and anxiety, and utilizing yoga as a unifying force to bring diverse communities together.
During the event, Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar administered pledges for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) and for the protection of senior citizens. The event was attended by several senior ministry officials including Ms. V Vidyavathi (Secretary of DEPwD), Ms. Manmeet Kaur Nanda (Additional Secretary), Shri Shailendra Kumar (Joint Secretary), Shri Praveen Kumar Thind (Joint Secretary), and Smt. Mona Khandahar (Additional Secretary of DoSJE). The Minister emphasized that yoga unites people from all over the world irrespective of religions, caste, and creed.
