The Ministry of Culture, in association with the Government of West Bengal, is organizing a special commemorative programme on July 6, 2026 at Milan Mela Prangan, Kolkata, as part of the two-year official commemoration of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah will grace the event as Chief Guest, accompanied by Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal, and Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal.

The day's programme will commence with floral tributes at Dr. Mookerjee's residence in Bhawanipore, followed by Bhoomi Poojan and foundation stone laying for a proposed 125-foot statue at Eco Park. A special exhibition featuring rare photographs, archival documents, and multimedia displays tracing Mookerjee's personal journey, ideological vision, educational reforms, and role in strengthening democratic institutions will be inaugurated.

The commemorative programme includes mass singing of Vande Mataram, a grand musical tribute titled "Sur, Sanskriti evam Rashtra" by CCRT featuring 57 accomplished artists representing diverse streams of Indian classical, folk and traditional music, directed by Padma Shri Tarun Bhattacharya. The event will also feature screening of a short film depicting Mookerjee's life and contributions, and release of a video showcasing the foundation stone laying ceremony.

The two-year nationwide commemoration honors the legacy of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee as a visionary statesman, educationist, parliamentarian and nationalist leader whose contributions significantly shaped India's political, cultural, educational and industrial landscape.
