The Ministry of Women and Child Development provided an update on its Mission Shakti initiatives, specifically the One Stop Centre (OSC) program which offers integrated support services to women affected by violence and distress. As of 30th June 2026, 1,033 One Stop Centres have been approved across India, with 985 currently operational. Since the program's inception on 1st April 2015, these centres have assisted over 15.20 lakh women nationwide.
The Central Government provides 100% financial assistance to States/UTs for staffing each OSC with 13 manpower resources including a Centre Administrator, 2 Case Workers, Psycho-social Counsellor, Para Legal Personnel/Lawyer, and Para Medical Personnel, with flexibility allowed based on local needs. State Governments and UT Administrations are responsible for overall implementation.
To enhance service delivery, 657 OSCs have been integrated with the Women Helpline (WHL) for coordinated referrals. The Women Helpline itself is integrated with Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112), Child Helpline (1098), and other service mechanisms for prompt emergency response. OSCs are also integrated with Shakti Sadan facilities for referring women requiring long-term institutional support, rehabilitation, and safe accommodation.
Shakti Sadan Scheme serves as an Integrated Relief and Rehabilitation Home for women in distressful situations, including trafficked women, providing shelter, food, clothing, counselling, primary health facilities, and other daily requirements. Residents receive vocational training, bank account facilitation, social security benefits, and micro-credit facilitation through SIDBI, Mudra, and other government schemes.
Additionally, the Sakhi Niwas Scheme (Working Women Hostel) provides safe accommodation for working women and those in job training, with 575 hostels currently functional across urban, semi-urban, and rural areas. The scheme includes provision for Day Care Centres for children of residents.
