Ministry of Tribal Affairs Forest Rights Claims Status Update

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey informed Rajya Sabha about the implementation status of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 (FRA). The Ministry clarified that State Governments and UT Administrations are responsible for implementing various provisions of the Act, while the Ministry of Tribal Affairs compiles Monthly Progress Reports received from the States/UTs.

The FRA is currently being implemented in 20 States (including Himachal Pradesh) and 1 Union Territory. The Ministry provided a state-wise status of claims filed, approved, rejected, and pending as on 30.06.2026, which was presented in an annexure to the Rajya Sabha Unstarred Question No. 2861 regarding 'Status of forest rights claims' asked by Shri Anurag Sharma. However, the Ministry explicitly stated that community-wise and district-wise segregated data is not maintained by them, limiting the granularity of available information.
