The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) across India (except Delhi and Chandigarh) with the objective of organizing rural households into Self Help Groups (SHGs) to achieve appreciable income increase and improved quality of life. Cumulatively, 10.08 crore women have been mobilized into 92 lakh SHGs through four core components: social mobilization, financial inclusion, sustainable livelihoods, and social inclusion.

The mission operates through several sub-schemes: National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) promotes sustainable institutions of the poor; Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) has supported over 6.5 lakh enterprises as of May 2026; Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP) empowers women in agriculture; Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) has trained 18.45 lakh rural youth and placed 12.35 lakh candidates since 2014-15; and Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) have trained 62.45 lakh candidates and settled 45.25 lakh rural youth through 647 institutes across 634 districts.

Social inclusion remains a core focus, with DDU-GKY achieving participation of 9.69 lakh women, 5.94 lakh SCs, 3.24 lakh STs, 3.12 lakh minorities, and 0.14 lakh Persons with Disabilities. RSETIs show significant women participation with 43.71 lakh (over 70%) women trained alongside substantial SC, ST, OBC, minority and PwD participation.

Financial allocations show a grand total of ₹50,22,273.09 lakh central allocation over five years, with ₹41,47,514.59 lakh released and ₹67,42,497.76 lakh utilized. Major state allocations include Uttar Pradesh (₹8,67,091.94 lakh), Bihar (₹6,02,286.84 lakh), Maharashtra (₹3,65,129.37 lakh), West Bengal (₹3,21,815.18 lakh), and Madhya Pradesh (₹2,86,576.68 lakh). Karnataka received ₹1,91,185.78 lakh allocation with ₹1,33,536.09 lakh released and ₹2,41,795.66 lakh utilized.

State-wise beneficiary data shows 10.04 crore women members benefited under DAY-NRLM, with highest numbers in Uttar Pradesh (1.15 crore), Bihar (1.49 crore), West Bengal (1.18 crore), Madhya Pradesh (59.03 lakh), and Odisha (60.72 lakh). Karnataka benefited 29.05 lakh women members, with district-wise data showing Chitradurga district benefiting 1,24,176 women members, while Tumakuru (1,42,222), Belagavi (2,35,228), and Mysuru (1,32,914) were among the highest beneficiaries in the state.

The program emphasizes targeted outreach in aspirational and tribal districts, dedicated capacity building, and convergence with social welfare departments to enhance financial inclusion, women's leadership, and income generation among SC, ST, and OBC households.
